Hubby’s second job sometimes requires travel, and I’m sometimes invited to tag along!
A few weeks after our fabulous trip to coastal Maine, hubby and I traveled to Louisville, KY, for a conference. Neither of us had ever visited the city though we’d traveled around it many years ago on our way home from Indianapolis.
We stayed at a cute little boutique hotel downtown with great views, Aloft, a couple of blocks from the Missouri River.
Downtown Louisville has some pretty good restaurants and interesting architecture. The city has invested a ton of money into the area next to the river, with lots of statues in quaint parks, boasting beautiful flowers and mostly commemorating Louis & Clark.
We enjoyed strolling through those spots before the sun had fully set on a couple of evenings. Many of the conference attendees were from the area and agreed with my sense that Louisville is not what it used to be: it’s simply not safe to walk alone in the city at any time of the day or night.
One morning, Hubby and I visited the Falls of the Ohio, just across the river from Louisville. Even with a lot of visitors taking advantage of the bright, warm day, there were people aimlessly wandering about and staring at passersby.
As a result, I spent a lot of time in my hotel room, watching art tutorials on my laptop and painting watercolors.
I wish I could wax poetic about Louisville! It obviously has the potential to wow visitors. We did find a bright spot at Work the Metal, a huge, eclectic gift shop in nearby Butchertown. I could’ve done all my Christmas shopping there if I’d had more time (with my escort) and extra, empty luggage!
Another bright spot we found was at Señora Arepas, where we indulged our cravings for Venezuelan food… and Nutella coffee!
