I’ve wasted enjoyed spending a lot of time in past few weeks perusing home tours on Instagram and via a couple of my favorite blogs, missmustardseed.com and thistlewood.com, both of which were in collaboration with a lot of other bloggers.

I confess: my Christmas décor is not all that this year.  With no plans to host a party or even have friends or family over for anything more than a quick chat, I’m not too inspired this year to drag everything out!  However, I know I need a little glow to help my Christmas spirit, so I spent a couple of days after Thanksgiving putting out about a third of what I usually do.  I limited it to just the front porch, foyer, dining room, living room, and kitchen.

This week, I’ll share with you the more formal part of the house, which I decorated in neutral tones.

Welcome!

The front porch received two fresh trees and two fresh wreaths, complete with white lights and ornaments.  The tin tree skirts were half price at Kirkland’s after Thanksgiving.  The garland is a quality fake one.  I bought several of them over the past few years from various places, usually boutique lawn-and-garden or antique shops.  They look almost real.  I used 300 LED lights from Amazon and some gorgeous rhinestone ribbon that I found at Tuesday Morning to complete the look.  Those are shatterproof ornaments from Target.

Inside, a green urn full of twigs, winter greens, pinecones, and some woodsy winter birds greet you, a creation by one of my favorite florists, Mostly Martha’s in Ridgeland.

Beyond that is my nativity scene, which my family has collected for me through the years, with an LED-wrapped star that I purchased from Kirkland’s several years ago.

My dining room is a fun place to decorate.  The same type of garland that’s on the front porch is draped over the shelves and down the center of the table, with more of the rhinestone and burlap ribbon from Tuesday Morning.

I love using glittery ornaments mixed with mercury glass and vintage-looking treasures, all in muted colors of pale turquoise, green, brown, and a variety of metallics.

Here are a few close ups of the vignettes on the shelves.

As much as I love this color scheme, I can’t help craving a taste of the opposite—color!  Next week, I will show you pops of Christmas red with retro turquoise that I’ve happily splashed all over the kitchen and living room.

May the Spirit of Christmas reign in your heart this week!
