We’re almost done with this travel blog, I promise!

On our last full day in coastal Maine, we visited the quaint and charming town of Camden.

We got there just as the shops were opening and shopped until hubby got grumpy.  We urgently sought out Zoot Coffee and resolved the grumpiness with a warm cappuccino. Then we were good to go through quite a few more shops. Truly, there’s a plethora of interesting places to investigate in Camden!

Two hours later, we were searching for lunch. We chose Marriner’s Grill because I could spy a water view at the back of it.  That water view turned out to include a waterfall leading to the Megunticook River. What a boon! The food wasn’t bad either.

I had a boring omelet, but hubby ordered a haddock Reuben, which he declared to be amazing.

We sauntered around to the park behind the deli and got some fun pictures.

After getting a few snapshots of the waterfall, we headed to nearby Rockland and another lighthouse.

The approximately mile one-way walk across the breakwater looked easy, but I had to watch every step as the 700,000 tons granite blocks are spaced with wide crevices and at slightly differently angles.  It’s not a simple stroll, especially for those of us who have short legs!

The breeze off the water and the photo ops made the two miles worthwhile.  We were ready to ride the couple of hours back to Portland though!

In Portland, we stayed at The Press Hotel.  For an English major, it’s a dreamy place!  First, the sign outside looks as if it’s constructed out of typewriter keys.  Then the check-in desk is in front of tons of colorful typeset, with the desk made of an imitation of the strikers from a typewriter.

The walk above the stairs is an artistic arrangement of antique typewriters, and there’s a huge delux Scrabble in front of a fireplace.

The rooms are small but full of high-end features, including a desk chair with a typed sentence embroidered on the backside.  I looooved it!

We didn’t get to stay long to enjoy it to the fullest as we had a 6 am flight out the next morning.  We did get a beautiful sunrise as we hurriedly sipped a cup of coffee before racing to our flight.

Thankfully, the airport was close by.  Returning the Jeep in Portland was a breeze, and our connecting flight from Atlanta to Jackson went without a hitch.

Hubby and I are glad to be home, but we’re already talking about our next trip to Maine!
