Day 5

Monday morning was dedicated to the thing that brought us to Colorado Springs—Focus on the Family! My daughter has wanted to visit the headquarters, which houses a fabulous bookstore and “Whit’s End,” the setting of Adventures in Odyssey, one of her all-time favorite broadcasts.

That door DOES open to Narnia!

We spent several hours there, getting a tour of the facilities, enjoying sweet treats at the soda shop, and loading up on books. Thank goodness that they can ship them home from the store!

It’s a chocolate soda with a fancy name, made famous by the Odyssey episode.
Another beautiful end to another incredible day!

Day 6

We got out the door early on Day 6 to beat the crowds that come to the Garden of the Gods during the summer.

Visitors can drive into the park (free) and find a spot near the trailhead for the most popular “trail.” It’s paved, clean, wide, and barely sloped. So easy! We walked the Perkins Central Garden Trail, out and back.

The rock formations are stunning. We were in the park from 9:30 to 11ish, and then we drove to the visitor’s center and drank iced coffee.

Since our tea reservation wasn’t til 2:30 at nearby Glen Eyrie, we had plenty of time to drive back to our AirBnB in Monument to freshen up.

Glen Eyrie is a property used for the ministry of the Navigators. I’d never heard of them before, but they teach Bible studies and commission Christians to share the Word of God with others.

The tea was fantastic! Each person had a tea pot containing his/her selected brew. We loved Hubby’s choice, the Bourbon Vanilla!

The castle also has a bookshop. We perused books, t-shirts, and teas until very ominous, dark clouds rolled overhead. A friend just informed me last night that Colorado Springs is the hail capital of the world. Friends, that’s exactly what we experienced.

And, yes, we did have to strongly urge my mother to stop taking pictures with phone and get into the van!

IYKYK!
