Southerners
Bishop & Sis Dian Craft

I have noticed so many traditions that are unique to Mississippi since moving here in 1999. Here’s where we’ll explore classic Mississippi reticence, the obligatory introducing of oneself many times to the same person to save them from shame and embarrassment, and other such traditions I’ve found only here.

I’ll ponder how living at the family farm is a lot like the story of the princess and the pea (could it be a litmus test for finding a true Southerner?).

I’ll probably recognize some traditions unique to Texas and Louisiana along the way. No, not probably. I’ve already thought of one for Louisiana: the tradition of family members you’ve not seen in years to suddenly and without any warning appear on your doorstep and expect to be welcomed inside with open arms for a long visit (I’m looking at you, Mom.). It could only happen in the South!
