Painting

I have painted lots of kindergarten type art with acrylic paint for my husband’s office. He’s a physician who sees both adults and children. When he joined his group in 2005, he had three rooms void of color. I could not imagine being a parent trying to entertain a child in such a boring, bland room. I looked into inexpensive artwork at the home decor stores, but I knew that the style was something I could (anyone, really) emulate for a fraction of the cost!

His patients have been so kind as to compliment them, and I even sold one! What? I was an English major, for heaven’s sake!

I started taking some free oil painting classes at the local community center, which is geared towards retired folk. (Thank goodness they accepted me.) I loved it! I made some special friends (Margaret, in particular), and then I was introduced to a master painter–Beth Dean! I had admired her sky-scapes for years at an antique shop, loving her palette and compositions. She actually had openings in her class in the fall following our initial meeting for me and for Margaret!!!

I’ve learned so much from Beth in the past couple of years. When COVID is resolved with a vaccine, I hope to re-join her class.

In the meantime, quarantine has afforded me more time to devote to painting. I like to watch a couple of artists on YouTube–Malcolm Dewey and Samuel Earp. I’m hoping to sell some art or gain some commissions somehow. It is a real joy. And it helps me sleep more deeply at night!
