Hubby and I got back from Key West, did a day of laundry and clinic work, and traveled to Tupelo, MS, on Friday for a Saturday Bible Quiz tournament.  I knew that I was not well by Sunday night.

I spent the rest of the week dragging around the house.  I tested negative for flu and COVID on Wednesday, but positive for flu on Saturday.  I felt like I’d wasted a whole week in which I’d hoped to start two new raised garden beds!

I felt well enough on Monday to pack for an early morning flight to Keystone, CO, on Tuesday for another conference.  Hubby struggles with altitude sickness, so he arranged for us to spend a day in the Denver area before heading up the mountains to Keystone.

We rented a 4×4 Ford truck and checked in early at the Westin Westminster, halfway between Denver and Boulder.  It was a lovely place to stay, and we were given a prime room on the 12th floor overlooking a huge terraced (and partially frozen) pond.  I was delighted to find a Chuy’s nearby where I indulged in a plate of chicken flautas–yummy and filling, as always!

Then we walked off our Tex-Mex at a nearby indoor mall.

The next day, we ate a hearty breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, Kachina’s, hubby put in a few hours of work from the hotel room, and then we got on the road.

Our condo at Keystone Lakeside Village was ready for us when we arrived.  Our room overlooked the definitely frozen 5-acre lake that was divided into a hockey rink and an ice-skating rink. The accomodations were dated but clean; we enjoyed the fireplace and kitchen.

Hubby was feeling the effects of the altitude that evening, so he found a tamer snow tube adventure for us in Frisco, not Keystone. For $80, we ran/rode up that hill and slid down it five times in our allotted hour.  It was the most fun ever as the weather was sunny and in the 40s, making the slope especially slick!  Our rides down were amazingly fast!

We consumed a tasty lunch in town at the Uptown on Main. Then Hubby returned to his conference.

The next day, between the morning and afternoon sessions of the conference, we drove to Breckenridge to eat, shop, hike to see a troll, and ride the FREE gondola up to the slopes.  Again, the weather was perfect with clear skies and sunshine.

Meet Isak!
I love this man. If he can, he always caters to my every whim on vacation!

After our little hike to see the troll, we ventured back to busy downtown Breckenridge to find lunch. I’d spied a likely place called the Blue Stag Saloon. The outdoor patio was crowded with patrons, and the smells wafting to the street were making it believable.

I had to take a picture of the menu.

The waitress recommended the Saloon Ramen. It had a venison/boar meatball and grilled quail in it.
The evening’s sunset with heavy clouds bringing a snowstorm

Overnight, the area had a snowstorm that dropped about 8 inches of snow on us.  After Hubby’s final early morning visit to his conference, we loaded our stuff and headed down the mountains in the still-falling snow to the Westin at the Denver airport.  It was a treacherous and nerve racking 2-hour ride!

The frozen lake outside our condo looked like nothing but snow!

Sunday mornings are very busy for the Denver airport.  Our flight was scheduled to leave at 6 am, so we took the advice of everyone we’d asked and ran through an 18-degree F wind tunnel at 4:15 am to check our baggage and wait for our departure.

Our trip was to Colorado was full of fun, but I was so happy to be back in lil’ ole Mississippi at 1:30 that afternoon!

Thanks for reading about another adventure. I hope the rest of your day is filled with joy. Happy Valentine’s Day!
