Last week, I shared some pictures of my home’s front porch, entry, and dining room. This week, I’m sharing with you the not-so-formal part of my Christmas décor. It’s in the part of the house where we spend the most time as a family—the kitchen, breakfast room, and living room.
I’ve fallen in love with bottle trees, and the shelves above our drink counter are the perfect place to show off some fun color. Some of the trees and the cute Mexican nutcracker are compliments of my Aunt Lori, who hosted a fabulous Christmas dinner for hubby’s Hispanic family in Houston. If my middle son hadn’t broken into the little pinata that was a part of the décor, I would’ve had that to add.
In the breakfast room, I have some galvanized metal shelves by Magnolia Home that beg to be decorated. Since they are metal, I can attach garlands and stockings easily with magnetic clips. Hubby’s collection of train ornaments got a special spot on top this year.
The kitchen stays uncluttered with a few kitchen-appropriate ornaments, a three-tiered coffee tray, and a couple of wreaths on the window over the sink.
We almost always opt for a huge live Frazier Fir tree in the breakfast room, but I decided to go simpler this year and use my pre-lit artificial tree that typically goes in the dining room. Plus, my kids are big enough to have things to do, places to go, and a car to drive on the day after Thanksgiving; it was going to be a challenge to coordinate schedules for us all to make a trip to pick out a live tree.
So, my living room has the artificial tree. It’s not too glamorous this year, and I only used our travel ornaments, my collection of snow babies, our framed photos of loved ones who’ve passed away, and some generic but colorful balls and ornaments. I stuffed a few branches of berries into spots to mask the artificial trunk. 🙂
The mantel has the same kind of garland I used on the front porch and in the dining room. I’ve had the stockings for years. They came from Ballard Designs.
The Christmas quilt is new, an early Christmas gift from my mom, who worked frantically to get three quilts ready to hand out at Thanksgiving. All the cute retro pillowcases in the livingroom came from Amazon.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas!
Such a beautiful home, Nancy! We sure miss your Christmas MAAC party this year! And tell Nana Claus how much I admire and love the quilt!!! Wish I had made one just like that!
