When I stopped homeschooling my boys and sent them to a local private school for high school and junior high, I scoured Pinterest and surveyed my teacher friends for the gifts most appreciated at Christmas time. All agreed that while mugs are a nice gift, receiving 25-30 of them per year is a bit much for the average cupboard.
I needed something that would be welcome and that my boys would not feel self-conscious about giving. That first year was a success with reports from the boys that teachers exclaimed with delight or left for home holding their gift with a smug, satisfied, cat-got-the-canary look on their faces. Are you wondering what it was? Are you thinking it was an expensive gift?
Here it is:
This morning, I pulled out all the supplies:
- Packages of Kit Kats (Walmart or Sam’s for the best price)
- $10 Starbucks gift cards in the shape of coffee cups (Sam’s)
- Tag Punch from Creative Memories (other brands are available now)
- Narrow ribbon for tags
- Wide ribbon for wrapping the candy
- A cardstock printout of the “You Deserve a Break” tag
I’ve been making these cute teacher appreciation gifts for six years now and my tag maker is getting very dull. Let me know if you have any tips for making it sharper! This year I’m only making 10 gifts, but I’ve made as many as 27 in past years. It just depends on the number of children I have enrolled in school that year. 🙂
I’m thinking that a teacher can never have too much of this kind of gift. 25-30 in one year? Bring ’em on!
By the way, the credit for the idea goes to eighteen25.com. I modified their document this year to just use the round tag.
