This post was supposed to go out last Friday, January 8, but I messed up and saved it as a draft! I hope it’s still meaningful a week later!
Monday, hubby told me with exasperation that the current news headlines were all bad news. In bold print, the media announced with seeming glee the worsening of the COVID numbers and the mutation of the virus, making it more contagious. In fine print, the same article might add, “though more contagious, the mutated virus appears to be less deadly,” but who takes the time to read the fine print anymore?
We are bombarded daily with a multitude of words and opinions, and we tend to just read the headlines as if they summarize the story beneath.
Then Tuesday came. The race to either elect one last opportunity to balance the power in Washington, DC, or to give free reign to a party that tends towards socialism consumed the national news. On Wednesday, the results of Georgia’s Senate race disheartened at least one member of my family, who spent the time getting ready for the day bemoaning the future of our country and our personal lives for the next four years.
Perspective. So often the talking heads who dominate the media and the liberal news outlets seem to have the loudest voices, turning our heads, discouraging our hearts, and narrowing our perspective. Who’s in charge of this thing called life anyway?!?
The same Wednesday morning, I walked away from the disenchanted family member and started making lunches in front of the big kitchen window. I watched as the darkness lightened enough to show a few clouds, shooting out like thick rays from an unseen source. Then the clouds turned to a deep magenta. Then they were an orange-pink color.
Finally, the clouds became spectacularly golden. My daughter and I were so excited that we insisted my son stop his preparations for school and come admire the sky with us.
What a peace we can have when we regain the right perspective! Everything changes!
Even as our world seems to grow a little darker with each passing day, remember that there is Light. I encourage you to seek that Light.
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.’” (John 8:12, KJV)
“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” (John 12:46, KJV)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy 1:7, KJV)
Thank you for this reminder of the correct perspective in life. While our ears get filled with all the negatives of this world, it is so important to constantly remind ourselves of the Spirit that lives within us. We must keep our faith strong and our eyes turned upward to Jesus, the One who has overcome the world. It is imperative that we, the believers, encourage each other and to hold fast to those truths.
Beautiful pictures. Red sky in morning… Matthew 16:3
