Boca Raton is a special place that I was blessed to visit this past week with hubby. He was asked to give a presentation, and the company opened the invitation to me to join him at the fabulous Boca Raton Beach Club.
We arrived at Ft Lauderdale around 3:30 p.m. our time and Ubered with a couple of ladies to The Boca (Beach Club). After looking around the gorgeous hotel for a few seconds, hubby announced that he needed to find a good meal.
We walked against a violent wind across an inlet to the original Boca Raton and found the Burger Bar. Seating was outside on a patio next to the most amazing water park. It was chilly, but there was a family splashing in the lazy river anyway. My own kiddos would’ve done the same a few years ago!
The smash burgers were amazing! As we meandered back through the Burger Bar to leave, hubby commented on the availability of desserts. The helpful attendant offered us a sample, and then dished out a cup of Dole pineapple whip, just like the one we enjoyed at the Dole plantation in Hawaii a couple of years ago. Hubby was a happy camper indeed!
The next afternoon, we took a shuttle to The Boca to admire the gorgeous architecture of the place. It’s like being in a palatial European cloister, and it’s maintained to the extreme!
With the evening ahead of us, we decided to take an Uber to Pottery Barn. Yes, hubby likes PB. He also found a Lego store there and bought a few door prizes to give away during his presentation.
Boca’s shopping is like the shopping of pre-pandemic days in the rest of the US. The enormous mall was a busy hub of activity, and the quality and variety of shops was refreshing! I’d forgotten how fun it could be to shop in a brick-and-mortar store!
As our tummies started to turn our minds to food, we paused to search for Mediterranean food near us. We ended up an authentic Turkish restaurant a few miles away run by a delightful family. Our waiter convinced us to get the mixed grill, and we happily consumed that, a side of hummus, and a chopped salad. So yummy!
The next day was hubby’s part of the conference. So far, the days had been overcast and extremely windy. That afternoon, the sun peaked out of the clouds and beckoned me to the beach. Hubby, finished with his talk, and I dipped our toes in the cold, crashing waves at last! The beach chairs were complimentary, so we indulged in the warmth of the sunshine for a little while before retreating to our “partial ocean view room” to get cleaned up for a group dinner out.
We left early the next morning to catch a plane back to the reality of our cold, foggy, dreary Mississippi-in-January weather and bid a fond farewell to Boca. The sunrise that morning was spectacular and reminded us of the goodness of the Lord even in the darkest of times. He is working even when we can’t see it!
