Do you remember that post about repurposing a memory foam mattress? Well, I have been slowly dismantling my old iComfort mattress since the beginning of September when I replaced it with a Dreamcloud hybrid mattress.
I’ve been wanting cushions for my window seat in the bonus room over the garage for some time. Not long ago, I priced pre-made cushions on Etsy. Then I quickly researched the price of foam for the length of space I had. The cheapest I was going to get off paying for a decent solution was $300. Forget that! Now that I had all this extra foam lying around, I decided to put it to good use!
I used my electric knife to cut my mattress into 19” deep strips, which is the depth of my window seat. Then I separated the layers of foam and decided that half the thickness of the original mattress would do nicely.
Next I had to figure out what to use to cover the two pieces of foam. My iComfort came with a quilted cover. I tucked the two pieces of foam into either end of the quilted cover and discovered that if I cut the cover down the middle, I had just enough to fold over the foam pieces, like an envelope. A few safety pins later and I had exactly what I wanted.
My pup has decided that although she loved having a cushion on the window seat before; now she REALLY loves having a 5” thick iComfort memory foam mattress in that space. She’d claim it as her permanent bed if only she could get a person to sleep in the bonus room with her!
