Mississippi students just started back to school, but I still consider August to be summer.
Temps have dipped into the 60s a few nights here lately, but that’s not fall, y’all.
A few months ago, I decided to enroll in an online drawing course by Ian Roberts. He’s an artist that I’ve admired for years, sometimes binge watching his tutorials on YouTube.
I’ve always enjoyed sketching, but I regret that I never pursued any formal art education. I now prefer to “draw” with a paintbrush although I know a good preliminary sketch would most likely improve my painting.
When I was very young, my parents subscribed to Highlights Magazine for me. I took the drawing activities very seriously; I never figured that Ian Roberts would teach the same grid technique!
Ian’s class had six weeks of instruction with live calls sprinkled throughout. I noticed on the first live call on Zoom that more than 500 viewers joined from all over the world. Wow!
I’ve told Hubby that I believed the class was worth every penny, especially because it just keeps on giving. Ian “ended” the class with a 30-day summer challenge, and he’s continued releasing bonus videos weekly to encourage students to keep practicing. He’s a teacher who is serious about conveying knowledge. I’m in awe of such a giving spirit.
I’ve already signed up for the next two classes he offers. I’m anticipating my own growth as an artist and a teacher.
